Imphal, December 29 2009: Suspected undergrounds fired some gunshots at the house of a pradhan at Irom Meicharao under Wangoi police station of Imphal causing damages to the household items last night.

Decrying the act of the suspects, villagers staged a sit-in protest at the village today.

The unknown armed miscreants fired at the house of the pradhan of the Lairenjam Meicharao gram panchayat, Sougrkpam Manihar last night at about 7.45 pm.

At least five rounds of guns fired at the house causing damages to the TV set, inverter and other hits at the wall and door of the house.

Wife of the pradhan, Sorojini said two unknown persons entered to the house last night and asked for her husband who was not at the house at that time.

They insisted to tell the truth about his whereabouts.

They further threatened to shoot at her two sons and a daughter who were at their beds.

With fear, she pleaded them not to do it by lying at their legs and requested to forgive her husband if any mistake committed on them.

Keeping behind her plea, they again threatened that if he is not found that he had to get punishment and took out guns and started firing targeting to the household items.

They also fired a round closed to her leg.

They also forced to lay on the ground her children after calling out from their beds and further fired two rounds of gun hitting at the wall of the room, Sorojini recalled the ordeal of the last night at her house.

After then, they left the house quietly.

Five empty cases of 9 mm pistol, a live round and a projectile recovered from the room of the house later.

The pradhan, Manihar said that at the time of occurrence, he was not at the house.

Sometimes back, KCP (City Meetei) group demanded Rs 50,000 each from 15 pradhans of Imphal west.

Unable to bear with their pressure, he changed his mobile number.

Later as warning, a hand grenade was deposited at his house recently.

Decrying the act of the miscreants, womenfolk of the village under the aegis of the Apunba Meira Paibi Irom Meicharao, MLDC and SYWO staged a sit-in protest at Irom Meicharao Pukhri Achouba Mapal.

They blamed the miscreants saying that they are not true revolutionary but come out only for their own interest.

They also appealed not to repeat such incident in future.
