Protest against killing of non-locals continues

Imphal, March 02 2009: With three migrant workers killed in the last two days in Imphal, the Chingamakha Model Club and Meira Paibi Apunba Lup on Monday demanded that security protection be given them and that a safe place be set up for the stay of the migrant workers.

Organising a sit-in-protest in this regard at the Chingamakha Community hall in Imphal West, S Soma Devi, president of the Meira Paibi Apunba Lup stated that these migrant workers were one of the most backward people working for the people of the state and condemned the very act killing of migrants.

Further condemning the act, the president of the Meira Paibi questioned what could be the condition and be responsible if the same act was reciprocated on the youths of the state who had gone for studies in various states.

"We want peace in Manipur as well as in other state especially for our children who are in other states studying.

We don�t want them to face the same problem,"stated the S Devi and called for an immediate end to such killings.

Meanwhile, members of the All Manipur Barber Association came to the morgue of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Monday afternoon to take the body of Suresh Thakur who was killed on Saturday morning at his saloon in Sagolband, Imphal West.

Mr.Nageshore, a member of the association alleged that the barbers were from the poorest section of the society perhaps doing the work that nobody wants to do.

"We are the poorest of the poor and if such killing begins against us, how are we to live in Manipur?" questioned Nageshore.

"We want peace and want to live in Manipur,"he added and asserted that the association would be grateful if they were provided protection by the state government.

On the other hand, Kailun, senior superintendent of the Imphal West informed that process were underway to investigate into the killings besides security measures being taken up.
