Gun injures a boy in reading room

Imphal, October 19 2009: A boy of 13-year sustained bullet injury while he was reading book last night at his house at Uripok Achom Leikai at about 1.15 am.

His mother was also nearby him at the time occurrence of the incident.

In protest against the hurting of the minor boy identified as Yurembam Prince (13) son of Duttasen, locals today held a meeting.

The meeting resolved to press the police to investigate into the incident and take up appropriate action.

Reports said that the gun that fired from outside the house hit the boy who was reading at his reading room with his mother on the side.

He was immediately rushed to the RIMS hospital but later referred to Shija Hospital after his condition becomes serious today.

The bullet which remained stuck at his left thigh has been taken out by the doctors who performed an operation this morning at about 4.30 am.

Decrying the incident of hurting the boy, residents of the Uripok Achom Leikai held a public meeting with G Shanti, former councilor of the Imphal Municipal Council in the chair.

Residents of neighbouring locals also attended the meeting.

The meeting resolved to urge police to investigate into the incident to identify the person who fired the gun and put the investigation report to the public.

Till the investigation over, the meeting further resolved to appeal not to create any tension between the suspect and the victim family.

The meeting also resolved to obey the decision taken by the locals if police investigation find the culprit to be from the same locality with the injure victim family.
