Imphal, June 17 2009: The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) preached 'emotional integrity' which it said is the bedrock for the territorial integrity of Manipur at large as the state gears up to observe the Great June Uprising Day or the Unity Day.

Expressing serious concern at the alleged imbalance mentality imbibed by the State government as well as the majority community, a statement issued by the Information and Publicity Secretary of KNO, Lenin H Kuki stated that there is no gainsaying the fact that the people who laid down their lives on that fateful day had made a great contribution.

"However, let every rational individuals know that sounding a thunderous voice over 'territorial integrity' without 'emotional integrity' could hardly hold any substance," it stated.

The KNO statement also observes that as long as the society, if not the nation, is fragmented, or the people tend to divide on Valley-Hills, Majority-Minority or Chingmi-Tammi lines, the territorial integrity of Manipur would ever remain at stake.

Few protesters who were killed on that fateful day of June 18, 2001 by the security forces in order to maintain law and order, have now been glorified as martyrs who laid down their lives for Kangleipak, Lenin noted.

It further pointed out that it would be relevant to recollect those innocent Kukis who had been mercilessly butchered at Zoupi and Gelnel of Tamenglong district on September 13, 1993 by the NSCN(IM)-backed Naga Limguards.

Asserting that the Kuki warriors/martyrs of Kuki Rising of 1919 for the sake of the state have also been forgotten while observing Khongjom Day, etc, it conveys that the KNO denounces such double standards being practised by the majority section of the people for decades.
