Imphal, February 08 2010: A large number of Meira Paibis belonging to Phayeng, Kangchup Chiru, Kadangband and Singda today marched to Lamsang Police station and served an ultimatum to arrest the culprits involved in the rape and murder of Angom Chanbi and her daughter Meneka within three days.

Earlier in the day, a public meeting was held at Kangchup Chingkhong on the twin murder and subsequent police failure to nab the killers.

With the police making little headway regarding the investigation into the twin murder case, the Meira Paibis expressed their apprehension of the issue dying a natural death without getting justice.

The Meira Paibis urged the police to arrest the killers within three days.

To this, the OC of Lamsang Police station said that extra efforts are being made to track down the killers.

He, however, conceded that even as many suspects have been pulled up and questioned, the investigation is still like groping in the dark.

Notwithstanding police admission of having made little progress in the investigation, the Meira Paibis maintained that they would launch all sorts of agitation in case the killers are not arrested within three days.

In connection with the murder of Chanbi and Meneka, police have pulled up Angom John, Angom Suniljoy, Angom Nanao, Angom Inaobi and Angom Rajendro.

All of them belong to Phayeng Ching Khunou.

On enquiry by the Meira Paibis whether any clue has been gathered about the murderers from the five arrested individuals, police said that they could not extract any information of importance.

Then the Meira Paibis asked as to why the five individuals are still detained if they were not involved in the murder.

The Meira Paibis further demanded release of the five individuals.

After serving the ultimatum, the Meira Paibis returned to Phayeng in the form of a protest rally shouting slogans to arrest the murderers all along the course.
