Imphal, July 05 2009: The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland) has registered its condemnation over the 'gruesome' act of the 6th JK Regiment personnel and members of DHD (D) Cease-fire group for the killing of Paukaneung Newme (26) and injuring Eliangbe (27) on July 2 last in NC Hills, Assam.

A statement issued by the general secretary of AZSU (AMN), Joshua Dangmei stated that Paukanueng Newme (26) son of Puadahingbe of Boreneu (Chotoninglo village) was killed brutally by 6th JK Regiment personnel and members of DHD (D) while their indiscriminate firing has led to the injury of one Eliangbe (27) son of Duilakbe of Hejaichak village on July 2 last.

Holding the Government of India and Assam Government responsible for the killing of the peace loving Zeliangrong people in Assam's NC Hills, Joshua pointed out that the incident has been untamed for quite a long time while adding that there were instances of such identical incidents in the Zeliangrong inhabited areas rendering the people vulnerable to become the victims.

The statement also demands for the immediate release of Pouchelueng Newme (26) son of Reuhingbe of Hejaichak village whose whereabouts is still unknown and untraceable.

While demanding the government of India to compensate the deceased and injured victims, the statement conveys that the AZSU and the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland will not remain silent spectators if their demands are not materialised at the earliest.

It also warned of launching series of agitations to safeguard and protect the Zeliangrong brethren in NC Hills.

The students' body further urged the Central and Assam government to initiate actions for the facilitation of normalcy in the trouble-hit NC Hills.

Joining the bereaved families in sharing their grief, the statement also appealed the Zeliangrong people to extend cooperation, in cash and kinds, to the victims.
