AILU demands CBI probe in shooting incident

Imphal, March 07, 2010: The all India Lawyers' Union (AILU), Manipur state unit today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, O Ibobi demanding immediate CBI inquiry into the incident of shooting and injuring Advocate General N Koteshwor while returning with two Cabinet Ministers in the same car yesterday, and immediate seizure of the car to preserve evidence.

Expressing deep shock over the incident in which Advocate General Koteshwor sustained bullet injuries while travelling in a car along with two Ministers, the memorandum, signed by Advocate P Tomcha Meetei, Convenor, AILU, Manipur state unit, stated that the Union strongly condemns the incident and the culprits should be booked under the law of the land.

The Union demands that the incident should be investigated immediately by a non-state agency, preferably the CBI so that the truth may be found out and the guilty could be booked.

If necessary, the Manipur state unit will invite the National Unit of the Union to visit Manipur and have them take stock of the situation, the memorandum stated.
