MUMSU presses VC, Registrar to resign

Imphal, May 28 2009: The Manipur University Muslim Students' Union (MUMSU) has reiterated to state that the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of Manipur University were responsible for the killing of Prof Islamuddin by a militant group while demanding befitting action against the two from the concerned authority.

Saying that one of the bright stars has faded with the demise of Prof Islamuddin, a statement issued by the president of MUMSU Md.Abdul Hashim stated that the Dean of Students' Welfare was not responsible for holding MUSU election while asserting that it was conducted by MUSU election committee.

Bewailing the dead, the MUMSU statement observed that such killing would not bring love and peace among the people of the state.

It stated that the authority had appointed him to hold the posts which Prof Islamuddin had held � Dean of Students' Welfare and Proctor.

It also stated that Prof Islamuddin was made a scapegoat by the VC and Registrar of the university who failed to tackle issues while also demanding their resignation on moral ground and to give them befitting punishment.

The statement also decried the inactivity of the VC and the Registrar for failing to provide security to the late Professor knowing well that his life was in risk.

It asked why he was not provided security while some less significant officers have been provided security.
