Imphal, July 15 2009: The Bishnupur district police have stated the 120 hours Bandh/general strike called by DESAM is without any justification while appealing all concerned not to support the bandh/strike called by DESAM in connection with the detention of some DESAM leaders under NSA.

In a 'General Appeal to the Public,' issued by the SP of Bishnupur district, Jayenta, the Bishnupur police appealed all concerned public to attend to their respective daily affairs without fear.

Stating that adequate security arrangement will be made for the entire district, the statement urged the transporters, bus owners, rickshaw/auto rickshaw owners, etc to ply their vehicles on the road without any fear.

The Police statement also warned of taking up stringent action against any person indulging in violent activities in support of the bandh.

It further appealed to all concerned that calling of bandh/general strike is illegal in the eyes of law as it seriously affects the functioning of the administration and functioning of the daily business of the normal citizen/public which in turn seriously affects the common people who earn their livelihood by attending local markets and business establishment.

It stated that bandh/general strikes forfeits the fundamental rights of the citizen guaranteed under the Constitution while informing that the bandh called by DESAM is 'without any justification' as it relates to the detention of few leaders of DESAM who were arrested and detained under NSA for their criminal activities, not related to the cause of the student communities.

Therefore, it stated, all concerned are appealed not to support the bandh but to attend to their respective daily affairs without fear.

The transporters, bus owners, rickshaw/auto rickshaw owners etc are also appealed to ply on the road without any fear.

The District police is making adequate security arrangement covering the entire segments of the District to provide security for the general public.

It is again cautioned that whosoever indulges in violent activities supporting and advocating the bandh will be dealt severely as per law, SP Jayenta stated.
