Lamka, May 29 2009: Assam Rifles in an encounter last night killed a twenty-six-year-old youth at Singngat Thadou Veng and recovered a 9 mm pistol with six live rounds from his possession.

FIR report filed by 30 AR said they had cordoned off the area after receiving an input about the presence of an armed man at around 5.30 pm.

After combing the area for about ten minutes, the youth took one civilian as hostage and attempted to flee but the Assam Rifles personnel effectively handled the situation and killed the youth after pumping a bullet in his head.

The deceased youth has been identified as one Maisnam Sumorjit Singh, son of Maisnam Talanga of Sugnu in Thoubal district.

Though the AR did not mention the identity of the individual who identified the slain youth, a reliable source said he was identified by a local woman who the youth had dated for the past months.

Police sources said autopsy will be conducted once the family members approach them.

But until then, it will be placed under their custody.
