Imphal, January 28 2009: Appreciating the people of Siroy for their quest for peace and tranquillity, Commander 10 Sector AR under Hqs IG AR(S) has said that the Assam Rifles is also committed to peace.

The DIG was speaking during an interaction programme with the people of Siroy area this morning.

He mentioned that NSCN (IM) cadres have been conveyed to vacate their Siroy camp with assurance of safe passage as a one time measure and to go to any of the designated camps.

However, they (NSCN-IM) cadres have forced the stand-off to continue for so long as they have not been able to take any decision on the matter, said AR PRO in a statement.

People of Siroy are aware AR is ensuring that no inconvenience is caused to the local people due to the ongoing impasse regardless of the reports published in some sections of media, claimed the DIG.

During today's visit, the DIG presented gifts to village elders, stationery items and sweets to schools of Siroy.

He also encouraged the people to go ahead with the seed sowing festival of Lui Ngai Ni and expressed that AR would be glad to be part of the event.
