Three slain in separate shoot-outs

Imphal, June 26: A KYKL member and two unidentified UG suspects were gunned down in separate incidents, and a body recovered even as security forces recovered two Maruti Vans and other items after yet another shoot-out in the valley areas of the State.

In the first incident that took place at around 8.30 pm yesterday at Ningombam Lamkhai near Imphal Airport, a KYKL cadre was gunned down by a team of Imphal west police commandos.

According to a police report the deceased identified as one Leichonbam Sarat (30) s/o (L) Chandra Singh of Mayang langjing Taning and belonging to the KYKL organisation had earlier been arrested on three occasions.

The commandos have recovered one 9 mm pistol, three live rounds and a Honda Activa (scooter) bearing registration No MN01Q/7134 .

In the other incident that occurred at around 11.30 pm of June 25 at Khongjom Tekcham in Thoubal district, a joint team of 34 Assam Rifles and Thoubal district police commandos eliminated a UG suspect.

According to a statement issued by SP (Thoubal) Clay Khongsai, acting on information regarding movement of suspected KYKL cadres at Chingtham area the combined security team conducted tactical operations.

Two motorcycle borne persons on being stopped tried to turn and escape but skidded and resorted to firing.

One got killed in retaliatory action while the other managed to escape taking advantage of darkness, the SP added.

Police claimed to have recovered one Bajaj Pulsar motorbike red in colour (MN06S/5451) and one 9 mm pistol with a magazine and four live rounds from the deceased individual.

Another encounter reportedly ensued between Thoubal police commandos and UG activists at Kairembikhok (Thoubal district) at around June 24 midnight but the number of casualty, if any, on the side of the UGs could not be confirmed.

Two maruti Vans (MN04A/0252 & MN06L/0575) in which the UGs came have been impounded by the police along with recovery of radio set, empty cases, incriminating documents and clothes.

There is no report of injury among the commandos.

The third killing took place at Phourangching near Nongpok Keithelmanbi this afternoon at around 2 when para-military force personnel gunned down the individual, whose identity is yet to be established.

The security team reportedly recovered a lethode gun and eight bombs.

Exchange of gun fire between security forces and unknown persons also ensued at Toubal area of Bishnupur district last evening at around 8.30.A combined team of 15 J&K Light Infantry and Bishnupur police headed towards Toubal side upon getting information of unidentified persons gunning down an individual at around 5.50 pm but came under fire from the suspected UGs.

After the gun-fight ceased the security team found the body of one Konthoujam Budhachandra alias Musuruf (21) s/o Herachandra of Ningthoukhong Ward No 2.The body has been handed over to family members after the post mortem at RIMS morgue this afternoon.

Shots fired: Unidentified miscreants resorted to firing at the entrance gate of MOBC Minister Md Allauddin Khan at Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai in the early hours of June 25.Security personnel who were deployed the next day for search operation in and around Kyamgei following the firing incident reportedly recovered an abandoned Jeep which was hijacked earlier.
