Imphal, April 26: The general strike called by the proscribed outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from last midnight till 5 pm today in connection with the boycott of the Lok Sabha polls ended peacefully without any untoward incidents during the course of the general strike.

The general strike thoroughly paralyzed normal lives in the city with shops, educational institutions and business establishments remaining closed with most of the public staying indoors fearing attacks.

Except for vehicles of security personnel, mediapersons and patients, other vehicles stayed off the road presenting a very deserted look to the city streets.

All inter district passenger bus services also remained suspended.

The general strike also seriously affected and brought normal lives to a grinding halt at Thoubal dist and Bishnupur dist with shops and markets remaining closed and public remaining indoors.

The general strike however did not have any impact in the hill dists Hqs.
