Election preparation gains momentum

Imphal, March 26: With the 14th Lok Sabha election round the corner, preparation for ensuring the smooth conduct of the election has been taken up in right earnest by the respective district administrations.

Following the announcement of the date and timing for voting in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, restriction have been imposed under Cr PC 144 in the whole of Bishnupur district with an eye to contain poll related violence and facilitate smooth conduct of the election.

District Magistrate of Bishnupur district had issued an order in this connection on March 18, thereby prohibiting assembly of four or more persons at a particular place at a given time and carrying of lethal weapons in public places.

The order also put restriction on holding public meetings, organising rally and processions and use of loud speakers without the permission of the Magistrate as well as pasting of posters and writing on the walls without the approval of the individual person concerned.

Restrictions have also been imposed on selling and drinking of liquor as per the order besides directing all license holders to surrender their arms and ammunitions at the nearest police stations.

All these restrictions would remain in effect till the end of the election.

However, officials and security personnel related to maintenance of law and order and essential services would be exempted from the purview of the order.

On the other hand, District Magistrate of Chandel AK Sinha in another order has directed all the license holders of arms and ammunition to deposit the same at the nearest police stations within March 31.The step has been taken up as precautionary measures to avoid any sort of violence and ensure smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha election.

Meanwhile, in connection with the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, a district level standing committee for three Assembly segments under Sadar Hills administration, namely Saikul, Kangpokpi and Saitu has been constituted.
