Nine AR men killed, claims UNLF

Imphal, November 23 2009: Claiming responsibility for the strike at the Assam Rifles, the proscribed UNLF has stated nine personnel, including two officers were killed in two strikes, while five fire arms and medical kits were seized from them.

In a statement, the outfit said that the first incident happened when cadres of the 239 Bn of the Manipur Peoples' Army laid an ambush and attacked a Gypsy ferrying medical kits to the personnel at Dingpi in Old Samtal area today at about 9 am.

In the attack, five personnel including one officer were all killed, said the outfit.

The cadres recovered two AK rifles, two INSAS rifles and one Folding Carbine.

Altogether five arms were recovered, said the statement.

A number of medicine kits were also recovered, it claimed.

The second attack occurred at about 12 pm, said UNLF.

Detailing, the outfit claimed that another group of the MPA attacked a re-inforcement party of the security personnel, which had come to recover the bodies of the slain personnel.

In the second assault too, one officer of the security personnel while others were killed.

Many others were injured, it claimed.

No MPA cadres of the UNLF were injured in the two battles, said the statement.

Recalling its past 'achievements' the outfit claimed that on October 31, this year, seven Assam Rifles personnel were slain while five arms were seized.

On top of this a bomb was hurled at a convoy of the Assam Rifles at Singjamei area on November 19, which grievously injured three AR men. The outfit also apologised for any hurt caused to the public in the Singjamei attack.
