BJP workers shot, ex-Minister's house attacked

Imphal, April 14: In a twin attack carried out last night, well armed militants attacked the residence of Ex-Minister L Radhakishore at Keinou as well as a residence of a BJP member located at Bishnupur with sophisticated weapons and bombs, said sources.

According to reports, unidentified gunmen numbering about six attacked Ex-Minister L Radhakeshore's house at Keinou Thongkha last night at around 8 taking advantage of the darkness prevailing in the area due to load shedding.

The gunmen who forcibly entered the house started firing indiscriminately at the house after forcing all the family members of the house onto the courtyard, added the report.

Reports further said that Radhakeshore was at Imphal at the time of the attack.

The firing completely destroyed all the household items kept inside the house which included refrigerator, television, Godrej almirah, ceiling fans etc.

Bishnupur police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Prior to the attack on the Ex-Minister's residence, another group of well armed militants numbering about ten also attacked the house of a BJP worker identified as Ningthoujam Sanajaoba located near the CI College Bishnupur last night at around 7.20 with bombs and automatic weapons.

However Sanajaoba and his family members who were present inside the house at the time of the attack escaped unhurt although a major portion of the house was destroyed during the firing.

One of the Lethod bombs which had failed to explode after landing at the house was safely exploded by police bomb experts this morning.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot a man on the leg on charges of canvassing for the BJP near the Toubul Kabui village under Bishnupur PS last night at around 7.30.The victim has been identified Takhellambam Mani (50) of Ngaikhong Mamang Leikai.

He is reported to be a staff of the Bishnupur Education Office.

According to reports, the victim was pumped with a bullet on the right leg after he was taken out of his house by about 7/8 youths who identified themselves as KYKL cadres.

He is presently undergoing treatment at JN Hospital.

Talking to mediapersons today, Mani clarified that he is an active worker of NCP and is not in any way connected with the BJP.

He further clarified that a meeting cum lunch session which was held at his house last Sunday was for the NCP not for BJP.

In another incident,thirty well armed militants shot another BJP worker on the leg at Herok Part II Litan makhong last night at around 11 after dragging him out of the house.

The victim has been identified as Ningthoujam Angan- jaoba (35) of 33 Heirok Part II Litan Makhong.

He is reported to be the president of 33 Heirok A/C BJP mandal.

According to another report, KYKL cadres executed a drug smuggler and shot three others for the same crime at Thanga Chingjin today.

Mention may be made here that all the four drug smugglers were produced before media-persons on April 12 by KYKL cadres.

The drug smuggler who was awarded capital punishment has been identified as Sorokhaibam Shanti (34) of Wangoo Mamang Saban.

The victim received bullet wounds on the head, stomach and thigh.

The body was handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS.

The three injured persons who are presently undergoing treatment at RIMS have been identified as Lukhoi, S Ibocha and Amon Joy.

In another incident, a personnel of the 17 th Assam Rifles post at Lilong who shot himself with his own service rifle on his leg succumbed to his injuries at RIMS yesterday afternoon at 4.30, said sources.

The deceased personnel has been identified as Om Prakash (35).Lilong police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, personnel of the 12 Assam Rifles handed over a youth who was aprehended from his own residence at Nongren Mamang Leikai on April 12 to the police today.

The youth has been identified as Ningthoujam Somorjit alias Phaphi (21) of Nongren Mamang Leikai.

Three bullets and some incriminating documents were recovered from him.
