UCM refuses to budge stand, sticks to joint meeting demand with Dy PM

Imphal, September 13: With the United Committee Manipur, UCM refusing to budge its stand even after a meeting with the Chief Minister today, a ministerial team from Imphal is set to go to Nagaland and meet SC Jamir and discuss matters pertaining to providing security on the portion of NH-39 passing through Nagaland.

Upon receiving a personal invitation, representatives of the UCM met the CM today where they discussed the boycott of NH-39 following the Piphema incident.

Despite appeals from the CM to lift the boycott in view of the suffering to be faced by the lower income groups, the UCM representatives refused to budge from their stand.

The CM also assured them that the 3rd IRB personnel who are undergoing training would be deployed on the highways after training to provide the much needed protection.

He also promised that due pressure would be mounted on the Nagaland Government to ensure adequate security on the portion of the highway passing through their State.

However, the assurances failed to cut any ice with the UCM representatives.

Sources said that the UCM representatives stuck to their stand that a joint meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and attended by both the Governments of Manipur and Nagaland should be convened to discuss the issue of providing security on the highway.

The UCM representatives also urged the CM to set up a Special Task Force to upgrade and develop NH-53.Apart from the CM, FCS Minister Ph Parijat, IFCD Minister N Mangi, MLA Dr T Meinya, Chief Secretary AP Sharma and DGP S Bimalchandra represented the Government.

The UCM team was led by its president Sapamcha Jadumani, vice-president K Langamba, general secretary Ratan Singh and advisor RK Ranendrajit.

In the meantime, the State Government has decided to send a Ministerial team to Nagaland to meet CM Jamir and talk over the issue of providing adequate security on the highway.

The team is expected to comprise of FCS Minister Ph Parijat, PWD Minister Gaikhangam, Horticulture Minister RK Theko, MoS Family Welfare Bijoy Koijam, MoS for GAD Francis Ngajokpa, MoS for Allaudin Khan and former minister AS Arthur.
