Imphal, August 12: With the Chief Minister and the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee failing to arrive at an agreement during a meeting today, the Committee has decided to go ahead with its proposed Sadar Hills bandh from August 16 to 21.In a statement, the Committee said that the meeting fell through as the Chief Minister failed to give a clear cut assurance to fulfil their demand to convert Sadar Hills to a full fledged revenue district but merely asked the Committee to call off its proposed bandh. The meeting was held at 2 pm, said the statement adding that a 15 member team of the Committee was present at the meeting.

During the meeting the Committee members asked the Chief Minister to fulfil the long standing demand of the people.

However the Chief Minister asked the Committee to first cancel its proposed five day bandh and to discuss the Sadar Hills issue later on, said the Committee and added that the stand of the Chief Minister was not acceptable to them.

"The meeting was unsuccessful," said the statement.

Following the failure of the meeting to resolve the matter, the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee has decided to go ahead with its five day proposed bandh from midnight of August 16 till midnight of August 21, it said.

The Committee has also urged all social workers, NGOs, youth clubs and general public of Sadar Hills to extend their support to the bandh for the success of the demand.

In July too, the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee had imposed a bandh in Sadar Hills jeopardising free movement of goods and trucks along NH-39.
