Imphal, April 12: Taking strong exception against the failure of the State Government to make any progress in its investigation into the murder case of Muheni Martin and Hrinii Hubert, the Fact Finding Committee (FFC) has threatened to impose an indefinite State-wide bandh if the Government fails to disclose the upto date report of its probe by 4 pm tomorrow.

Talking to The Sangai Express, FFC chairman Solomon Veino informed that the decision to this effect was adopted during a meeting held at its Senapati office today.

As against the agreement signed between the FFC and the State Government representatives in the last meeting held at Senapati district Hqs, the State Government has failed to provide the upto date information of the police investigating into the murder case, he asserted.

"This shows the lackadaisical attitude of the Government and we cannot tolerate the negative response" Solomon said.

"We can immediately take recourse to bandh and other agitation but we are restraining ourselves taking into account the people's suffering likely to be brought by such measures", he added.

"We are giving 24 hours time to the State to provide progress report of the police investigation.

However, we will be constrained to call an indefinite general strike all over the State in case the State Government fails to act positively by 4 pm tomorrow", Solomon cautioned.

In case of any untoward incident in the course of the agitation, the whole responsibility should be borne by the State Government, he said.

Commenting on the FFC's investigation, Solomon said that they have made remarkable progress with six suspects out of the eight currently facing trial in NSCN (IM) custody having confessed their involvement in the crime.

These include the prime suspects Manikho and Brown Tangkhul.

As the NSCN (IM) is also making headway in its probe, the FFC has given 10 days to continue the probe.

After the period, a five member probe panel of the FFC would be probably going to Hebron to take stock of the case and resume its investigation.

The probe panel of the FFC comprises of one representative each from Maram, Mao, Paomai, Zeliang and Thangal tribes, Solomon informed.

Concerning the issuance of arrest warrants against the two key members of NSCN (IM) charging them of 'refusing' to hand over the prime suspects to the State, Solomon remarked that it only showed the incompetency of the State to tackle the case.

The State Government by issuing these arrest warrants instead of putting efforts to bring to book other suspects not in the hands of NSCN (IM), is only making a fool of the public, he asserted.
