Three non-locals shot dead

Imphal, June 11 2009: Three more non-local labourers were shot dead while two others were injured when unidentified gunmen struck at their work shed near the boys hostel of CAU at Iroishemba today at about 7.45 pm.

According to police, altogether 17 labourers, including six non-locals were at the shed when two unidentified gunmen came there and ordered them to pack up and stop working.

The two gunmen then inquired who the Mohori was and also asked whether there were any non-local labourers.

The six non-local labourers were then herded outside and made to sit in a line after which the gunmen took out their guns and opened fire killing three of them on the spot.

The three were all hit on the heads.

One of the non-local labourers managed to escape.

Police said that he managed to escape as the gunmen ran out of bullets and started thrashing him.

The deceased have been identified as Gouranga Mandal, Sobha and Dilip.

All were from Dhola bazar in West Bengal.

The two injured have been identified as Jaganath Mandal and Palash Chandra.

Both are from West 24 Paragana Street, WB.

Jaganath was hit on the head and abdomen while Palash was injured on the right leg with a bullet grazing past him.

The dead bodies have been deposited at RIMS morgue while the two are undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital.

The lucky one who managed to escape has been rescued by police but his identity is not yet known.
