Imphal, May 11: In view of the counting of votes for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at 10 Assembly segments of Imphal East district, Deputy Commissioner KK Chhetry has issued an order today restricting entries and exit of vehicles at certain points of Imphal.

The restrictions will come into effect from 9 pm of May 12 till the counting is over, said the DC while interacting with news-persons at his office chamber today.

All forms of vehicular traffic have been barred from plying along the Porompat Ayangpalli road crossing upto east of Iranpham Thongkhong and vice versa and all by lanes from Porompat Road No 2 entering various offices in Porompat area from south to north.

In view of the restrictions vehicles proceeding eastward will have to ply on the Ayangpalli Road either to the north or south of Porompat crossing and move towards the east.

Similarly, traffic movement towards west shall take either north or south of Porompat road via Kongpal Khongkham Leikai from Iranpham Thongkhong.

Even water tankers operators are advised against collecting water from the Porompat reservoir during the restriction period.

On the security arrangement for the counting the DC said personnel of 1st Manipur Rifles would man the campus with Imphal East SP assigned to conduct vigil in the periphery of the counting centre.

With the exception of counting agents of the two independent candidates who are yet to submit their names out of six contestants for the Inner seat formalities of all the counting agents of the remaining candidates have been cleared, said KK Chhetry.

The DC who is also the District Election Officer has issued a separate order informing all the officials, including reserved ones, assigned for the vote counting to reach the Imphal East DC Office counting centre at 7.45 am of May 13 in view of the restrictions imposed in and around the counting centre.

Meanwhile, Chief electoral Officer, Manipur V Chibber has informed that latest counting trends would be shared with the general public as instructed by the Election Commission of India.

Clarifying on a news report carried by this daily the CEO statement said instruction from the ECI to provide the counting trends has already been intimated to all the State CEOs and the same has been conveyed to the DC/RO, Imphal West.

Traffic regulations would also come into force regarding entry and exit to/from the Lamphel office of Imphal West Deputy commissioner where votes would be counted for 13 assembly segments that went to poll for the Inner seat.

The restrictions would be enforced from 3 pm of May 12, said Imphal West SP S Ibocha talking to newspersons at Imphal West district police station today evening.

Vehicles of candidates, observers and those having vehicle pass issued by the election Commission would be allotted parking slot at the Court complex of Chief Judicial Magistrate after entering from Naoremthong Laishram Leirak with vehicles of security personnel escorting the candidates to park at Naoremthong or at Polo Club for those coming from Kamdebo Leirak.

The passenger jeeps servicing from Khwairamband Bazar till national games Village would be diverted towards Kombirei road via Chingabam Leirak and Mohan Motors, detail-ed the SP with the same route chalked out for the return.

People residing to the south of DC office would be verified before passing through the restricted route, he added.
