Imphal, July 07 2009: In pursuance of the demand to produce the killers of contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas, the JAC formed in connection with the killing has called a 24-hour State-wide general strike with effect from 5 am of July 9 to 5 am of July 10 .

Announcing this at a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, executive member of the JAC, Ksh Kenedy pointed out that even after the arrest of six persons so far, the State Government has not been able to produce the mastermind behind the killing.

The ongoing investigation of the Government is also confusing and the public are not satisfied with the progress, Kenedy said, adding that instead of trying to solve the case, the Government appears to be deliberately dragging on so the incident is forgotten by the people.

It is in condemnation of such attitude of the Government that the JAC has decided to call the 24-hour general strike in Manipur, Kenedy stated.

It may be recalled here that contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas of Kakching Sumak Leikai was abducted by unidentified armed persons from the house of his wife at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai after being shot on his leg in the night June 10 .

He was later found brutally murdered at Lilong Chingjao area in the morning of June 12 even though the family members had paid Rs 25 lakhs to the armed abductors for securing his release.

Wife of Krishnadas Yengkhom Ongbi Bimola, who was also present during the press conference, said she had gone herself to hand over the ransom amount and requested the abductors to save her husband's life.

But the manner in which the body of her husband was found abandoned after being brutally murdered even though the ransom was paid is unbearable, she lamented.

Bimola lamented that though the police have so far arrested Ashalata, to whom the ransom amount was handed over, picked up Nando from the Sajiwa Jail besides arresting another from near Lilong Chingjao where the body was found abandoned, the mastermind behind the killing has not yet been arrested.

She demanded to know why the police have not been able to find out to whom Ashalata had given the ransom money and the master mind of the killing from the interrogation of Nando.

The Government should not remain indifferent to the killing of innocent persons and the killers should be produced and punished, Bimola said.

Publicity secretary of JAC P Somorendro said the public want a logical conclusion to the case.

Numerous memoranda have been submitted to all concerned and various agitation have been launched and the JAC would not budge from its stand until the culprits are produced by the Government, he said, adding that the Government should not wait for the people to take recourse to undemocratic form of agitation.

Court approves : The CJM Imphal has today admitted the warrant of arrest issued in connection with a chartsheet framed by CBI ACB Shillong against Md Abdul Latif, an officer of the State Police on alleged charges of destroying the material evidences related to the arrest and subsequent killing of Md Tayeb Ali.
