Imphal, May 03: The Election Commission of India has assured deployment of maximum number of security personnel for smooth conduct of adjourned polls at 13 polling stations of Vangai Range in Churachandpur district and four at Jiribam sub-division for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

The development arose after State election officials met the ECI members at New Delhi today where extensive discussion centred around the stalled polls at these centres previously rescheduled to go to polls on May 5 but ultimately postponed for an indefinite period.

The Manipur Government was represented by Chief Electoral Officer V Chibber and the ECI by its Deputy Election Commissioner AN Jha.

The CEO informed that the exact number of security personnel required for the Vangai Range and Jiribam centres would be finalized by the State Home Department and Ministry of Home Affairs.

Another meeting between the officials including the Election Commissioner will be held tomorrow to fix a new date for the polls.

It is pertinent to mention that owing to security reason, elections could not be conducted at the Jiribam centres whereas heavy landslides affecting travel of despatchment of poll personnel and materials have been cited for deferment of polls at Vangai Range.

The CEO also informed of repoll at Thangal polling station (54/13) of Tamenglong district scheduled for May 5.
