Imphal, May 18, 2010: Demanding lifting of the economic blockade being imposed along the National Highways passing through Manipur within 24 hours, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union, Nagaon District has threatened to impose a counter blockade if the demand is not considered.

In an appeal, the student body said that blocking of the National Highways-39 and 53 by Nagaland based organisations like Naga Students' Federation has resulted in acute shortage of food, medicine and other essential commodities.

Cutting the lifelines of a State is against the law and God's will, the student body said, adding that if the ongoing blockade is not lifted within 24 hours, it may be constrained to take up appropriate steps like counter economic blockade.

Meanwhile, North East People's Organisation in association with Karbi Students' Union (Hojai), Dimasa Students' Union (NDC Hojai), All Assam Students' Union (Hojai Unit), Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (Assam-NDC Hojai), All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (NDC Hojai), Assam Ex-Tea Tribes Students' Union (Hojai) Unit and Assam Meetei Chanura Apunba Lup (Lanka) organised a rally at Hojai yesterday demanding lifting of the ongoing economic blockade imposed along the National Highways passing through Manipur by Naga organisations.
