Protests against Muivah's visit continue

Imphal, May 17 2010: There is no let up in people's protest against the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) General Secretary Th Muivah in valley areas of the State.

Around 2000 people mainly women and school children took to streets in denunciation with the visit at Charangpat area of Thoubal district today.

Locals of Charangpat, Esung Khunou, Bange and Thokchom villages took part in the rally which was taken out from Charangpat Esung Khunou to Charangpat Luxmi Bazar.

Students of United Public School, Charangpat, LI Standard English School, Esung Khunou and Thambal English School, Charangpat and Career Residential School also participated in the mass rally, which was culminated in a public meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, UCM Finance Secretary BN Yaima said that every community in the State must join the protest being staged against the proposed visit of the Naga rebel leader Th Muivah in order to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.

UCM President Yumnamcha Dilipkumar while appreciating the decision of the State Government to bar Muivah's entry into the State flayed Central Government for giving green signal to visit the State to the separatist leader.

UCM Organisation Secretary JK Mangang while speaking in the meeting cautioned the Government that the consequence would be even worse than the June 18 uprising if Muivah is allowed to enter the State.

Huge turn up in today's rally is the testimony of people's aspiration to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, he added.

Meanwhile, meira paibees of Yaiskul Women Association Meira Paibee staged a sit-in-protest against NSCN (IM) General Gecretary Th Muivah's proposed visit at Moirangkhom Bazar today.
