Imphal, March 12, 2010: Local people of Thoubal Khekman Makha Leikai took out a protest rally against the controversial death of Yumnam ongbi Sanasam ningol Inakhunbi and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal district today.

Inakhunbi of Thoubal Khekman Makha Leikai was married to Yumnam Amu alias Romen of Thoubal Leishangthem Makha Leikai.

They have two sons (aged 8 and 2 years).

It is said that Inakhunbi was four months pregnant at the time of her death.

Her husband Romen is a VDF personnel attached to Thoubal district police.

Even as Inakhunbis in-laws maintained that she was suffering from mental problems and her death was a case of suicide, her parental family has been contending that Inakhunbi was killed by her husband.

The protest rally which started from Khekman Mayai Leikai marched till Thoubal Leishangthem Awang Leikai.

Turning back from there,, they headed towards Thoubal DC office along Thoubal-Mayang Imphal road to submit a memorandum.

But they were blocked by a Thoubal police team.Later, some representatives were selected and allowed to proceed to the DC office.

The protestors carried placards which read as "police should not condone killers of Inakhunbi", "disclose post mortem report of Inakhunbi", "we condemn killing women" etc.

Speaking to reporters, late Inakhunbis elder sister Lata said her sister was not accepted by her mother in-law on the ground that she was too young to enter marital life.

As her husband was not earning for a long time, Inakhunbi did many odd jobs like fishing, running a small shop at home etc.

After getting appointment as a VDF, Amus character became wayward and started having extra-marital affairs.

Amu was encouraged by her mother in his pervert activities while Inakhunbi was subjected to physical and mental harassment since the past year, Lata said.

At one instance, Inakhunbi was beaten severely and expelled from their home by Amu because she received a telephone call made by his girlfriend.

Unable to bear the harsh treatment, Inakhunbi returned to her parental home together with her kids in October last year.

After about a month, the youngest son was taken away by her father-in-law.

The separation caused much trouble and pain, ultimately forcing Inakhunbi to go back to her husbands house.

After Inakhunbi had gone back to her husband, there were many reports conflicts and quarrels in the family, Lata conveyed.

Amu even threatened Inakhunbis parents saying that he would kill their daughter if they did not take her back.

Coincidentally, Inakhunbi was reported dead the next morning, the elder sister recalled.

She went on to say that bruise marks, apparently made by heavy club, was observed on the left part of Inakhunbi.

Many injury marks were also observed on other parts of the body .

Moreover, the corpse of Inakhunbi was found lying on the bed covered with a quilt, Lata said quoting local eye-witnesses.

Actions taken up by Thoubal Police in connection with the controversial death is not satisfactory.

None of the accused has been pulled up nor the post mortem report disclosed till date, decried Lata.
