Doctor presses alarm bell over health of hunger strikers

Imphal, June 09 2010: With the condition of MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang and vice president Dr S Dhananjoy, who have on a hunger strike demanding lifting of the total economic blockade imposed along the National Highways and ensuring adequate supply of essential commodities including food, fuel and fertiliser, etc to the people, slowly deteriorating, doctor has advised on the precautionary measures to be taken up.

Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam today came to examine the condition of the two MPP leaders who have been fasting since May 7 and cautioned that if the condition worsen over the next two days, they may faint among other complications.

Talking to mediapersons after the examination, Dr Sanasam informed that the condition of Dr Nimaichand is more serious that he is not only a diabetes patient but also suffered stroke once earlier.

Moreover, as no food and water have been taken for the last three days, mouth has become dried up and there is problem in urination.

On the other hand, Dr Dhananjoy has started having problem in his stomach and urination, Dr Sanasam added.

He further informed that since the fasting has completed three days, there would need for examining their condition after every six hours and check their blood sugar level and urine test.

Meanwhile, MPP has sent yet another memorandum to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Governor of Manipur today demanding lifting of the economic blockade and ensuring adequate supply of essential commodities to the people.

Alleging that the present suffering of the people has been brought about as a consequent of administrative failure of the SPF Government, the memorandum has also demanded the Centre for taking up necessary action against the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh-led Government.

On the other hand, MPP has convened a people's conference of all its office bearers, youth fronts, Chanura Marups and leaders of district and kendra committees to discuss the present issues on June 11.Youth Front of the party, while demanding lifting of the blockade, has also categorically stated that the State and the Government of India should be responsible for any that may happen to the two party leaders who are on fast unto death.
