Bloods contaminate water at Andro pond

Imphal, November 05 2009: Water of the public pond at Andro Sanapat where security forces killed men in what said to be encounter in two instances in the recent time become not potable due to accumulation of blood into the water.

Stating this, a statement of the All Andro Meira Paibi Association signed by its secretary Ibemhal dispatched today urged all authorities concerns not to repeat such kinds of incident of killing people in the said area as the pond is the only water body which the people of the area use for drinking and other purposes.

The unfortunate incident of November 1 last which seven men were slain in the hand of the troops of Assam Rifles was the second time that killing of people took place in the area within a month period.

On October 8, another instant of killing people in what said to be in encounter occurred at Andro Lamkhaipung near the same pond, the AAMPA expressed.

After the accumulation of the blood in the two instant, people stopped fetching water from the pond.

This has caused hardship to the people of the nearby villages in searching for drinking water apart from causing fear and panic to the people.

The association appealed to both undergrounds and security forces to avoid repetition of such bloodshed in the area in future.
