Sit-in-protest against killing

Imphal, November 03 2008: LOCALS OF Uripok Bachaspati Leikai today staged a sit-in protest decrying the killing of a former KCP cadre Thounoujam Iboyaima alias Suresh, 42, son of late Manglemba of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai currently residing at the family quarter of the 7th MR battalion headquarters, Khabeisoi.

They also alleged that he was killed in a "fake encounter" after picked up by the security forces in civil dress.

Mention may be made that Iboyaima was killed by a combined force of the Imphal west police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles on the evening of November 1 at Khonlou village at Kolien along the NH-53 under Sepermaina police station.

The family of the slain man has also lodged a complaint to the Heingang police station to register a case against the security force stating that he was shot dead after picked up.

But police is yet to register the case with the reason best known to them only.

Today, a sit-in protest was also carried out today Uripok Bachaspati Leikai where the slain man hailed from demanding appropriate punishment to the erring security personnel involved in the murder.

The sit-in protest which commenced at around 10 am went on till around 4 pm.

A JAC formed against the killing of the man organized the protest.

The dead body of Iboyaima is still lying at RIMS morgue as unclaimed body as family with the support of the locals and JAC formed in connection with the killing refused to received it.

They are demanding to conduct the post mortem to the dead body in presence of an executive magistrate and with video coverage.

The JAC is schedule to submit a memorandum to the chief minister tomorrow.
