Imphal, May 31 2009: The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has today demanded resignation of 'incompetent,' 'communal,' and 'corrupt' Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Manipur University on moral ground.

Listing various alleged wrong doings by MU authorities in a lengthy statement issued by MUTSU Spokesperson, Pamei Tingenlung and its general secretary, Dinjangam Riamei, the MUTSU stated that the present development of MU depicts the dignity, integrity, intention and incompetency of the VC, Ch Amuba and Registrar, Prof Lokendro.

Crack developing on the wall of Thangjing Hostel visitors' room, breaking down of a portion of ceiling of Men's Hostel No.2 (Koubru), pending Men's Hostel construction, collapse of newly inaugurated Anthropology department building, poor quality maintenance in the construction of basket ball court, failure of MU Wi-Fi system, are the points raised by MUTSU in the low standard works of the MU authorities.

On appointment front, the MUTSU statement observed that the filling of Deputy Registrar post reserved for the ST, and interview for two posts of Assistant Finance Officer and Assistant Registrar for the ST, are not materialised till date.

It also stated that casual recruitment of 138 candidates for the non-teaching staff was conducted at the discretion of the VC while also wondering why the interview venue for the recruitment of three guest lecturers on the History department was suddenly shifted to Hotel Nirmala, and the State Guest House.

The MUTSU statement also noted that hostellers of MU were pulled out due to the excessive frisking inside the campus which the authorities seem uninterested to intervene.

While saying that the Prof Islamuddin might not have met his fate had he been provided security by the authorities, the statement held the VC and Registrar sowing the seeds of communal flareup among the students in MU.

It also held the VC and Registrar responsible for hindering the academic environment by postponing the MA/MSc/MCom/ examinations and curtailing the chance of students to migrate in other universities.

It also took note that the university campus turns out to be the grazing field.

The statement also observed that since Amuba and Lokendra assumed their respective posts, things began to take ugly shapes in all matters relating to the administration, and a kind of complete anarchism prevailed.

It also noted that their regimes will ever be remembered as the 'darkest age' in the history of MU.

Since its conversion from State to Central University it is clear to all the people of the state to see the situation of MU without allegation from MUTSU, it stated.

Demanding the resignation of the VC and Registrar for the cited reasons, the MUTSU statement also appealed other students' as well as social organisations for the restoration of normalcy in MU.
