In a statement, publicity and propaganda secretary of DESAM KC Ibomcha stated that the statement of the police was the demonstration of the government and the Manipur police's way of habitual by rote while saying that it is very unfortunate.

What will the police say on the hunt for students' leaders in their respective homes if the arrested students were said to be involved in the killing of Prof Islamuddin, the DESAM statement asked.

It is very inauspicious plan of the government when the police link the arrested students who actually were taken by the police for verification to establish some facts with underground elements, the statement observed.

Had the Manipur government and the police been engaged to counter several terrorist attacks in some cities of India, they would have arrested several innocents by claiming them as 'involved' and 'proven,' it stated.

It further stated that it is now the time to remain watchful for the students as well as the public.

The statement also recalled the recent incidents of arresting a person from Imphal and claimed that he was arrested from Moreh and the incident of killing a person after arresting him from near Sajiwa Jail and claiming that he was killed in an encounter.

It stated that labeling the students as having involved in the killing of Prof Islamuddin after arresting them from schools, University's hostel, from their homes and claiming to have evidence is the routine 'by heart' practice of the government for which it doesn't deserve excuse.

The act of hurling charges against a detained person can be done by even a minor, the statement argued.

Demanding the unconditional release of the arrested students' leaders, the statement also the practice of the government has been going for too long a time.

It also urged the government to carry out thing by acknowledging the sentiment of the people.

It also urged the concerned authorities to facilitate the restoration of the shattered academic atmosphere.

The statement further insisted the government to shun their carelessness on the academic atmosphere of the state.

Mention may be made that among the 13 students volunteers detained by the police, DESAM educaiton affairs secretary also included.
