Divided opinion still stalks ADC polls
1st nomination filed in Chandel dist

Imphal, April 29 2010: Despite the strong opposition raised against the conduct of the ADC polls under the 3rd Amendment of 2008, on the ground that it is anti-tribal, an aspiring candidate has become the first man to submit his nomination paper today to contest in the ADC election for a seat under the constituency of SDC Tengnoupal in Chandel district.

However, the name of the aspiring candidate, who submitted his nomination paper to the RO today, and the political party to which he belongs are not known as the details are yet to be submitted, according to information received from the Control Room of the State Election Commission.

The first phase of the election will be held on May 26 covering the ADCs of Chandel, Sadar Hills and CCpur.

Each of the District Council has been divided into 24 constituencies for electing a total of 72 Council members.

In all 552 polling stations would be set up for the election and a total of 3036 polling personnel at the rate of five polling personnel including the presiding officer in each polling station would be deployed for the conduct of the election.

The security arrangement and categorisation that would be required to ensure smooth conduct of the election has been entrusted to the Home Department.

The last date of filing the nomination paper is May 3 and the scrutiny would be carried on the following day.
