Security men among five injured in blast

Imphal, December 27 2009: A bomb exploded in front of a private hospital this evening inflicted injuries to five persons including two state security men off the duties and their two family members.

The bomb hurled by suspected undergrounds exploded in front of the Sky Hospital, RIMS Road this evening at about 6 pm.

In the explosion, a police commando personnel posting in Imphal east district, Hijam Chacha (40) of Patsoi part-IV, his younger brother, a personnel of 6 IRB identified as Premjit (30), wife of the commando personnel, Bibi (33) and his brother in-law Sagolsem Rameshwor alias Khaba (45) son of late Chura of Keinou along with a security man of the Sky Hospital identified as Sorokhaibam Tomba (36) son of late Yaima of Kwaketihel Heinoukhongnembi sustained splinter injuries.

Chacha sustained injuries at his left thigh, Bibi sustained injuries at the left arm and chest, Premjit at the left cheek while Ramshwor at his left leg.

They have been admitted at RIMS hospital.

The security man of the Sky Hospital inflicted injuries at left chest and has been treated at the same hospital.

Injure Rameshwor said that he along with other five family members met the ill-fated incident when they were returning from visiting their ailing grandma at RIMS Hospital on an auto-rickshaw.

When, they reached in front of the Sky Hospital, the bomb suddenly exploded injuring to four of them.

After then they were immediately rushed to the Imphal Hospital where they were referred to RIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, police said that the bomb went off only some feet away from the Sky Hospital on the road.

In the explosion, a Maruti Car (MN 01S/2741) and an auto-rickshaw (MN-01R-8122) damaged by the impact of the bomb blast.

Police could not immediately establish whether the bomb targeted to the Sky Hospital or to the security men.
