Imphal, October 24 2009: Several vehicles broken down during the 24-hour statewide general strike called in protest against the robbed and murder of a doctor, Huidrom Binodkumar today.

Though normal movement of vehicles all kinds seen on the road in other places of the state, highway traffic along the stretch of the NH-39 from Yaiskul and Singjamei Super Market disturbed due to blockade by the protestors burning abandoned tyres, debris and stretching tree branches and others this morning at about 11 am.

Windshields and headlights of many vehicles defying the general strike were smashed by the protestors at Singjamei and Moirangkhom area.

Police intervened and cleared the road in the effort to resume normal traffic.

Locals staging sit-in protest at Yaiskul Chingakham was also dispersed by the police.

Police dispersed the sit-in protest as protestors refused to stop blocking the road.

They dragged down the banners at the protest site, scattered materials used in the protest.

They even destroyed the pot with water keep at the protest site.

The general strike has no impact in other places of the state.

By and large, the general strike called demanding booking of the culprit(s) concluded peacefully midnight tonight.
