Tadubi SDO on rehab mission

Imphal, May 18, 2010: The State Government has deputed the SDO of Tadubi sub-division to negotiate and bring back the people of Mao who have fled their homesteads and are currently taking shelter at Khuzama, Nagaland.

A number of people fled from Mao following the skirmish between security forces and protesters at Mao Gate on May 6 in which two students were killed.

On the other hand, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai will be coming to the State to take stock of the situation prevailing here on May 21. An official source informed that the State Govt has directed district authorities to see if curfew can be relaxed at Mao after a spot assessment by the Senapati SP.

The SDO Tadubi was sent to Khuzuma to convince the displaced Mao villagers to come back to their native villages.

The State Government was also asked by the Ministry of Home Affairs about the status of withdrawal of State forces from Mao Gate.

Home Secretary GK Pillai who is coming to Imphal from Guwahati on May 21 in a helicopter will attend the Siroy Lily Diamond Jubilee function as chief guest.

He would put up the night at Imphal before leaving the State next morning.
