Bomb threat at Lilong; protest at Kwakeithel

Imphal, November 15 2009: A failed bomb attack performed today at a timber dealer shop even as locals of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai staged protest against the bomb threat to the house managing director of Imphal hospital yesterday.

Miscreants lobbed a hand grenade at the timber dealing shop owned by one Md Sahidur Raheman (40) son of late Jalaluddin at Lilong Bazar this morning at about 7 am.

The bomb that felled inside the shop failed to explode.

Police later defused safely and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, residents of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai area today staged a sit-in protest against the bomb threat at the house of managing director of Imphal Hospital, Salam Maipak decrying the act of the unknowns.

According to wife of the Maipak, Hemabati, around three months back, there was an instant of handing over a demand letter of Rs 3 lakh to the family with a mobile number to contact them.

After around a week later, they again asked the reason why Maipak not contacted them to the provided number.

After remaining silent after sometime when the family informed them of some problem due to ailing of among family members, they once against contacte on November 13 last.

In the morning of the next day, the hand grenade was found lying at the front courtyard, she told reporters.

Residents participating in the sit-in protest appealed all concerns not to lobbed bomb in the house and cause panic to the residents.

"We strongly condemned the bomb attack at populated area, don't convert very place battlefield, we don't want gun but peace, etc.
