Imphal, January 09 2010: Gunmen intruded into the house of a pradhan at Hiyangthang Mayai Leikai under Wangoi police station this evening and opened fire, injuring the younger sister of the pradhan and her sister in-law.

The shooting incident took place at the house of pradhan of the Hiyanthang Gram Panchayat, Huirem Angoubi at about 730 pm.

The injured women were identified as Huidrom Bimola, 38, (younger sister of pradhan) and Huirem ongbi Tombi, 26, (sister in-law of the pradhan).

A bullet pumped at the left leg knee of Bimola exited on the other side while Tombi sustained bullet injury at the right thigh.

They have been evacuated to RIMS hospital and they were stated to be out of danger.

Injured Bimola said two unknown persons entered their house by calling out the name of her sister who is a pradhan.

When she opened the door, one of the miscreants took out a small gun and asked for the pradhan.

He also demanded her contact number.

Tombi who was in her bed room came out at that point of time.

When a heated argument erupted on the whereabouts of pradhan with the other unknown person, the person with the gun asked Bimola to move away some steps and then fired at her leg.

On seeing the gunman shooting at Bimola, Tombi shouted and rushed toward the gunman with the intention of snatching the weapon but the gunman once again fired turning toward Tombi resulting in hitting her right thigh.

At the time of occurrence of the incident, the ailing pradhan was in her bed.

Except the three women and another minor gir,l no male member was in the house.

Family members could not immediately ascertain the reason behind the attack.
