Mixed response to ADC polls in 2nd phase

Imphal, June 02 2010: Amid tight security to avert any unwanted incidents, the second phase of the election to the Autonomous District Councils of Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong district was held with mixed responses today.

Though voters turn out in some polling stations have been recorded nil some recorded more than 90 percent polling.

Out of the six constituencies under the Senapati District Council which went to the to poll, no voter turned up to exercise their franchise in eight polling stations under 4-Tungam constituency under Paomata sub-division.

Of the seven polling stations of 9-Yangkholen constituency under Tadubi subdivision of the district, polling have been recorded nil at polling station 9/3 Tamphung LP School and 9/7 Makulongdi UJB School.

However, in polling station 9/4-Yangkhollen (A) Lower Primary School, 90 percent polling have been recorded while 87 percent and 93 percent at Yangkhollen (B) LP School and 9/6 Yangkhunou UJB school respectively.

Polling recorded at 9/1-Thuyang UJB School and 9/2 Chakha LP School of the same constituency could not be confirmed until the time of filing this report.

In the four constituencies of the district under Purul sub-division, no polling have been recorded in five polling stations of 17-Phaibung Khullen Constituency.

However, in polling stations 18-Ngari Khullen LP School, 18/2 Ngari Lishang Primary School and 18/3 Ngari Waidulomai LP School of the sub-division, upto 90 percent polling have been recorded.

In polling stations 18/5 Khodei Khuman Junior High School and 18/6 Khodei Shimphung UJB School, 35 and 30 percent polling respectively have been recorded till 11 am today.

The exact polling percentage recorded at the end of the polling hours in these two polling stations as well as in 18/4-Thiwa Government High School could not be received till late evening.

In 19-Lakhamai constituency of Purul sub-division, 99 percent polling have been recorded in polling stations 19/1 and 19/2 Lakhamai Junior High School (R/W) and (L/W).

Till 11 am today, polling recorded in polling stations 19/3-Kodom Khullen UJB School and 19/4-Kodom Khavei Primary School was said to be 60 and 33 percent respectively.

Moreover, 30 and 97 percent polling respectively have been recorded in polling stations 19/5-Shiroy UJB School and 19/6-Ngamju UJB School, according to ROs concerned.

In the nine polling stations of 21-Oinam constituency, the fourth constituency under Purul sub-division, polling was recorded nil in six polling stations.

However, in 21/5, 21/6-Thungba Khullen UJB School (L/W) and (R/W) of the same constituency, 20 to 30 percent polling have been reported recorded.

There is no report of any untoward incidents during the course of the polling in the Senapati ADC.

In Tamenglong ADC, 62 to 70 percent polling have been reportedly recorded in polling stations of different constituencies located near the district headquarters, according to information received from the State Election Office.

Information for other constituencies and polling stations located in remote part of the district could not be confirmed as the polling personnel are yet to arrived at the district headquarters till the time of filing this report.

Poll related violence have been reported from 7 to 8 polling stations of the ADC constituencies located near the district headquarters.

Consequently, repolling may be ordered in these polling stations, according to information received by the press.

Our Jiribam correspondent adds: Around 90 percent of the voters reportedly exercise their franchise in 5 polling stations of Phaitol constituency of Tousem sub-division in the Tamenglong ADC election today.

Along with ballot boxes, polling officials polling have reached Jiri police station.
