Condemnations over arrest of students galore
Unconditional release demanded

Imphal, May 28 2009: Various organisations of the state have registered condemnations over the detention of students and the vigorous hunt for students' leaders in connection with the killing of Prof Islamuddin at MU campus by a militant group.

Condemning the action of the police in arresting the students, the Maharaja Bodhchandra College Students' Union demanded the unconditional release of the detained students in view of preserving the academic atmosphere in the ongoing examinations of various courses under MU.

The statement signed by its secretary SK Akham has also condemned the killing of Prof Islamuddin at the University campus.

The Yourabung Youth Club also expressed condemnation over the detention and hunting of students' leaders in the wake of the killing of a university teacher.

Condemning the killing inside the campus, the statement signed by its secretary S Amusana also demanded the release of the arrested students.

In the same vein, the Itam Nungoi Juvenile Club, in a statement released by secretary of the club L Bobisana also condemned the killing as well as the subsequent arrest of students while also demanding the release of the arrested students.

The Birmangol College Students' Union and the Ghana Priya Women's College Students' Union have also strongly denounced the arrest of students' leaders by the security forces in the wake of the killing while also demanding the unconditional release of the students.
