Imphal, August 22: One suspected UG cadre was killed in a reported encounter with a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry at about 8.10 pm today.

The encounter took place at the junction between the road to Meitram and Imphal-Churachandpur road (NH-150), about 6 kms North of Nambol police station.

According to police sources, the suspected UG cadre on being asked to halt opened fire towards the security force.

He was killed in the retaliatory fire.

The corpse was found in a road side ditch.

One 9 mm pistol and a magazine with three live rounds were recovered from the possession of the slain individual.

The individual was found wearing 4/5 trinkets on the arm and rings on four fingers of left hand.

Tattoos were also found on the left backhand, wrists, chest and left arm.

The tattoo on the wrist was inscribed with the word 'Meloly'.

The slain individual was found wearing a vest embossed with the word ECKO and stripped trousers.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
