Youths killed at Sekmai were innocent: families

Imphal, December 21 2008: With the establishment of the identities of the two suspects killed by a combined force of Imphal west police commandos and Assam Rifles last night at Sekmai, families have claimed that one of them was a home guard personnel and other a driver.

The slain person claimed to be a home guard was identified as Md Islammuddin (25) son of Md Nasir Ali of Lilong Chingjao while the other one said to be driver was name as Md Azad alias Sanayai (25) son of Md Abdulhei of Lilong Heinoukhongnembi.

Families said that they left home to collect sand from Sekmai river yesterday afternoon in a DI Tata.

The two slain persons which police suspected to be activists of an underground group were gunned down by a combined team of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles at Nongdombam village some three kilometer on the north of the Sekmai police station last night at around 8.45 pm.

Police has also said that a carbine with a magazine loaded with five rounds of ammunitions and two hand grenades were recovered from the slain men.

Today, family members who turned up at RIMS morgue while identifying the slain men claimed that Islammmudin was a home guard personnel attaching at the Lilong police station and Azad was the driver of the DI Tata (MN-01K-5386) .

The families while alleging that they have been killed for the sake of money which they were with said that the duo went together in the DI Tata to collect sand from the Sekmai river yesterday at around 2 pm and they accompanied some money to buy goods.

Separate JACs have been formed by the locals against the murder of the duo and threatened to launch agitations if the state government does not punish the security personnel involved in the murder case by 4 pm tomorrow (December 22) .

The JACs have also got ready to submit memorandums to the chief minister regarding the killing, locals said.
