Hand grenade threat at embroidery centre

Imphal, June 17: An Indian made hand grenade was found in the work shed of embroidery and knitting centre, KETAWN located at Yumnam Leikai Nambul Mapan at about 9 am of June 15 .

However, the grenade had no lever though it had its detonator.

According to police, the hand grenade would go off.

Even as those involved in placing the explosive there and their motive cannot be ascertained, police have retrieved the grenade.

However, a demand note of Rs 5 lakhs signed by proscribed KCP's fund raiser in-charge Wanglen Khuman was served to the centre on June 8, disclosed KETAWN proprietor Yumnam Sorojini (55) w/o Ibohanbi.

She further informed that she was called by the KCP at different places to deliver the amount they demanded though the outfit's demand has not been met till date.

No women except male mechanics hired to repair machines was allowed to enter the work-shed where the grenade was found.

Protesting against the intimidating act, workers and trainees of KETWAN staged a dharna in front of their office today with an appeal not to repeat such activities in future.
