Imphal, July 23: Two suspected underground activists have been gunned down by security forces in Imphal east and Thoubal district areas tonight.

At around 5.45 pm an encounter reportedly ensued between unidentified persons and a combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles at near NG Mani College along the Imphal-Sawombung road.

According to police sources, the security team recovered an M-20 pistol with four live rounds from the deceased suspected to be a KCP (MC) member.

Another gun-fight took place at Yairipok Moirang Palli in Thoubal district at around 7.30 pm during which Thoubal district police commandos gunned down a UG suspect from whom a Chinese handgrenade has been recovered.
