JAC on killing sets deadline

Imphal, July 17: Setting 5 am of July 18 as the deadline for the State Government to initiate appropriate action on its two point demand, a JAC formed in connection with the slaying of Md Abdul Latip of Lilong Mairenkhun asserted it would enforce indefinite general strike along the national Highway 39 stretch with immediate effect.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister today, the JAC contended that Md Abdul Latip was an innocent person who earned livelihood as a driver and left home last evening to purchase medicines for his ailing mother.

the 30 year old son of Md Ayajuddin was shot dead by a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and para-military force last night at Hiyangthang Tarahei area.

Demands of the JAC include punitive action against police commandos involved in the slaying of Abdul Latip and extending ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to next of kin of the deceased.
