Imphal, March 09 2009: At least one police commando personnel was injured this evening when suspected UGs opened fire on a team of Imphal West police commandos.

According to reports, the incident took place around 4:00 p.m.at Canchipur area under Singjamei police station in Imphal West district when suspected militants fired on a team of civil commandos who were conducting a search operation following information of suspected militant taking shelter at the area.

The shooting left a havilder injured, however, the suspected militants managed to flee after the incident, as per the reports.

The injured havilder has been identified as one Meisnam Suresh (30), son of Yaima.

According to the reports, he was hit on the left arm and has been hospitalise at RIMS hospital.

In the aftermath of the incident additional forces rushed to the spot and further carried out search operation in and around the area.

However, no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
