Two injured in AR firing at Khoirupok village

Imphal, December 06 2009: Villagers of Khoirupok who brought up two villagers injured in the gun firing that took place in the village on last Friday have alleged that personnel of the Assam Rifles camp at the village fire out guns and explosives after they backed to the post after a search operation there.

Two villagers injured in the gun firing on that identified as H Matuiching (52) son of late H Prankhanching and S Huimi (53), son of late Thuingaleng of the Khoirupok village under Karasom Police Station of Ukhrul district were brought up at RIMS Hospital, Imphal today.

Matuiching is the treasurer of the village authority.

He was hit by bullet at the backside while he was sitting inside his house while Huimi who was sleeping at his bed sustained bullet injury at left thigh.

Village authority of the Khoirupok village said that the incident was not exchange of fire between rebels and AR but indiscriminate firing from the security personnel from their camp.

Injured Matuiching said, before the gun firing took place, Assam Rifles conducted an operation in the area.

After the operation concluded and troops returned to the camp, they were out guns towards the village in indiscriminate way.

Troops of the Assam Rifles fired out guns and bombs from the camp located at the hilltop.

At least four bombs went off near the houses of the village.

The firing started around 6 pm of December 4 and went on till 6 am of next morning.

Most of the houses in the village were damaged in the indiscriminating firing.

A primary school, a community hall, an Angawadi Centre and weaving centre.

In the aftermath of the incident, womenfolk of the villagers marched towards the AR camp to call on with its captain Chhetry but they were not allowed to call on him.

Later, womenfolk forced to enter the camp but when they were informed of captain out of station, they retreated from the camp.
