Imphal, December 27 2009: The JAC Against Firing Incident at Nongbrang has decried the statement of one Minister in the SPF Government who reportedly stated that those involved in killing students should not be let scotfree as well as the alleged one-sided statement of the Thoubal SSP.

A press release issued by the JAC demanded that the Government should take up befitting actions against the SSP for his alleged attempt to cover up the faults of a particular side.

The JAC questioned as to why Wangjam Bijoy of Leirongthel and Maibam Ojit alias Kakabcha of Nongbrang Tera Urak are still being detained in police custody.

Rather than rewarding for good deeds, the Government has been harassing people, arresting villagers and making one-sided statements, it alleged.

Demanding opening of security posts in 2/3 sensitive areas and immediate release of the arrested villagers, intense agitation of different types would be launched, the JAC cautioned.

The JAC further reiterated that the two individuals killed in the mob action were those who could not get on board the vehicles driven away hurriedly as the local people ran out to fight the UG cadres who opened fire towards unarmed women protesters.
