Imphal, May 22 2010: To check deprivation of essential commodities to the people on account of frequent imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways and hike of prices of the essential commodities by the businessmen taking advantage of such situations, 25 different organisations have jointly come together and formed a forum.

United Women's Forum, Manipur was formed during a joint meeting of these 25 organisations at Hotel Anand Continental here today.

The 25 organisations are Rural Women Upliftment Society (Churachandpur), Tuithaipei Presbyterian Women Development Project (Churachandpur), Integrated Rural Management Association (Senapati), Hmar Women Association (Churachandpur), Integrated Women Development Service Organisation (Thoubal), Macha Leima, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (MNP+ Thoubal), Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagat Lup, Sinpham Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, Women Welfare Association (Thoubal), Chanura Lamjing Lup (Kangleipak), Organisation for Development (Santhel), New Era Progressive Service Centre (Imphal West), Weaker Sections Development Council (Chandel), All Tribal Women Organisation (Chandel), Universal Mothers' Organisation, Kabui Mothers' Association (Imphal), All Manipur Tribal Women's Union, United Manipur Muslim Women's Association, Freedom from Hunger (Thoubal) and Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup.

The meeting was convened to discuss the problems being faced by the people due to shortage of essential commodities following imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways and what steps to be taken in this regard.

The meeting has also unanimously elected Kh Anandi and Nonibala as convenors of the Forum.
