Imphal, October 13 2008: Few doctors at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal have started taking voluntary retirements while some have shifted over to private hospitals due to high monetary demands and pressures from militant outfits, informed Dr..WGyaneshwor, director in-charge of RIMS and professor cum head of the Biochemistry department today.

Talking to the some media persons at his office chamber Monday, the director in-charge stated that with the increasing demands it was likely that the doctors would surely ask for security.

However, supplying of securities for all the doctors in RIMS was not possible as their number was too high, Dr.Gyaneshwor added.

Nevertheless, he added that if security for the doctors were to be provided it had to be something like the doctors' colony inside the campus of RIMS.

The doctor also lamented that the ever increasing external disturbances like threats and demands from various quarters were hampering the development of the hospital.

The future of RIMS is uncertain if such disturbances continue, the doctor conveyed.
