Chief Secretary to visit Mao today

Imphal, May 08 2010: Chief Secretary DS Poonia would be visiting Mao tomorrow to take stock of the situation prevailing along NH 39 following prevention of Thuingaleng Muivah from entering Manipur through Mao Gate.

Meanwhile, a top army officer has confided that certain changes can be expected in the situation hovering over NH 39 in the next couple of days.

Chief Secretary DS Poonia would be visiting Mao together with 57 Mountain Division GOC DS Hooda in a helicopter.

With no untoward incident reported from Mao and other Naga inhabited areas ahead of the Chief Secretary's scheduled visit, prohibitions being imposed in Mao area under Section 144 of CrPC would be relaxed from 6 am till 6 pm tomorrow.

The Chief Secretary and the GOC might also interact with local leaders at Mao GOC DS Hooda visited Senapati and Tadubi and assessed the situation prevailing.

Later, he attended a meeting presided by the Chief Minister which was also attended by the Chief Secretary, the DGP and IGAR (South).

A top army officer said that army troops have moved to NH 39 under an arrangement by the State Government and initiated due measures.

Some changes can be witnessed in the situation of the highway in the next couple of days, he said.

On the other hand, the old building of Chingai SDO office was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants last night.
